Tawny Owl

TAWNY OWL

When is it here? All year round

How easy is it to see? Although common, you’ll only see them at night in the dark.

How big is it? Small

What colour is it? Brown with a slightly paler chest.

What might I confuse it with? Nothing

Where are they? All over the Trail, but most commonly where there are areas of woodland. They are also found near areas of habitation.

What are they normally doing? Owls are famed for their nightly hunting habits. Tawny owls can be seen flapping between trees, and you may catch sight of one in your car lights. They are also sometimes seen sitting in the middle of roads, where they can be dazzled by car lights.

They’re more commonly heard than seen, with their classic twit twoooo call. This is actually a mating call between the males and the females.
