Trossachs to Doune Bird of Prey Trail
Sparrowhawk
Sparrowhawk (resident all year and common)

The Sparrowhawk was a bird of prey under threat just two decades ago. It is now a common sight along the Trail and can sometimes be seen soaring high above the forests, or glimpsed for a secon or two as it hunts along the hedgerows.

Wingspan: 2-2.5 feet (60-80 cm)

Colour: Male has pale blue wings and orange streaked breast.

Similar to: Goshawk

How do I know? The only raptor on the Trail likely to be encountered taking small live prey, (other birds), whilst in low level flight.
