Trossachs to Doune Bird of Prey Trail
Red Kite
Red Kite (resident all year, but most obvious in winter)

The Red Kite is perhaps our most colourful and acrobatic bird of prey, and can be seen at Argarty Red Kites and occasionally along the eastern edges of the Trail around the villages such as Thornhill

Wingspan: Just over 5 feet (2.5 m)

Colour: Rusty red above and below, black wing tips.

Similar to: Common Buzzard

How do I know? The largest raptor likely to be encountered in the lowlands on the Trail and the only raptor with an obvious forked tail.
