Kestrel
KESTREL (resident all year and common) 

The kestrel or ‘motorway falcon’ is one of the best known birds of prey, often seen above roadside seen above roadside verges hovering  on fast-beating wings in search of prey with eyes focused on the  ground below. 

Wingspan: 2-2.5 feet (68-78 cm) 

Colour: Male (pictured) has a light blue head, females and juveniles have a brown head. 

Similar to: merlin, peregrine 

How do I know? The only small raptor that can hover.
